EXAMINE & EXPLORE
LOCAL - GLOBAL INTERDEPENDENCY -
DIMENSION & VALUE
Through the activities we carry out, pupils/ audiences will explore
ideas, methods and learning approaches used by different cultures,
traditions and the diverse roles of explainers. They will investigate
the ways in which other cultures produce images and symbols, and their
meaning, how messages, are conveyed and problems solved. Learners can
experiment with methods and approaches used by Explainers from these
cultures and examine materials, patterns and geometric shapes found in
materials from Africa and their uses and relationship to global issues
Our workshop theme will help use exploration of African/southern way of
life for local-global issues to including diversity and community
cohesion.
We already produced a high quality exemplary work with twelve RC
primary schools, led by St Bridigs RC Primary School on Africa Explains
pilot project in 2008.
The bringing of African perspectives and experience to bear on the themes together with the experience encounter with African/Southern Explainers will have a strong educational impact, bringing a more critical and empathetic understanding and awareness. There is already a strong regional demand from primary school teachers and LEAs for the involvement of Cultural Explainers.
We have an established partnership with a number of major museums, schools and higher institutions that the work AWAD added value to their methods and practices.
